Kayla Varney began her playing career at 13 years old for Vista Murrieta High School. She was a member of the school's first-ever varsity team. She captured first-team All-Southwestern League and All-Southern Section honors as a senior and helped the Broncos advance to CIF-SS quarterfinals that year. She earned All-Southwestern League first team and All-Valley second team in 2005.
For club volleyball she started with Saddleback Valley VBC as a sophomore in high school and served as team captain for Saddleback, helping her squad place 2nd at Reno Volleyball Festival in 2006. During her off time in summer she took advantage of beach volleyball earning her semi-pro AAA rating and receiving an award for most winningest player throughout her beach career.
Just three years after starting volleyball she received 6 full ride offers, but ultimately decided to accept the offer from UC Davis where she played outside hitter for her first three years and libero her senior year. She started and played every single match throughout her career at Davis earning All Big West Conference honorable mention and Big West Conference Player of the Week 3 times. She is part of UC Davis record books ranking second for most all time digs in a career and tenth on the list for most all time kills in a career.
Kayla was an Elite coach at Forza1 during the 2016/2017 season where she proved to be a great coach and mentor. While on the team she coached at Force Volleyball Club for two seasons and helped with numerous camps at UC Davis specializing in hitting and defense. Her pride and joy is serve receive and defense and she cannot wait to help take this club to a new level.
Fun fact: she was "Crush" the mascot at the Reno Volleyball Festival for 6 years!
